Queen of Heaven

Queen of Heaven, Rejoice, Alleluia!
Queen of Heaven was written by Fr. Lucien Deiss C.S.Sp. (1921-2007). It was first published in 1965 as part of the collection: Biblical Hymns and Psalms, Volume 1. He composed approximately 400 hymns for the Church. Jubilee, a 2 CD set representing the best of his work in available through WLP. In the Liturgy of the Hours, Queen of Heaven is used in the Commons of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Mother of Holy Hope

May Every Age Call His Mother Holy and Blest

Mother of Holy Hope was written by Fr. Lucien Deiss C.S.Sp. (1921-2007). It was first published in 1965 as part of the collection: Biblical Hymns and Psalms, Volume 1. Besides writing many hymns honouring the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Reverend Deiss also authored the book: Mary, Daughter of Sion (Liturgical Press, 1972), which reflects upon the life of Mary as a Daughter of Abraham. In the Liturgy of the Hours, Mother of Holy Hope is used in the Commons of the Blessed Virgin Mary and on the Feast of the Assumption.

Hail, Holy Queen

By You the Light has Entered the World

Hail, Holy Queen was written by Fr. Lucien Deiss C.S.Sp. (1921-2007). It was first published in 1965 as part of the collection: Biblical Hymns and Psalms, Volume 1. Besides writing many hymns honouring the Blessed Virgin Mary, Father Deiss also authored the book: Joseph, Mary, Jesus (Liturgical Press, 1996) which reflects on the childhood of Jesus and the influence, both intellectually and spiritually that Joseph and Mary had in his life. In the Liturgy of the Hours, Hail, Holy Queen is used on August 15th, the Feast of the Assumption; and in the Commons of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Rejoice, O Virgin Mary

Rejoice, Full of Grace

Rejoice, O Virgin Mary was written by the Spiritan Priest, Fr. Lucien Deiss C.S.Sp. (1921-2007). It was first published in 1965 as part of the collection: Biblical Hymns and Psalms, Volume 1. Fr. Deiss composed over 400 songs during his lifetime. Biblical Hymns and Psalms, Vol. 1 along with it's follow-up: Biblical Hymns and Psalms, Vol. 2 (1970), in total, sold over one million copies worldwide. In the Liturgy of the Hours, Rejoice, O Virgin Mary is used on the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord and for the Commons of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Splendor of Creation (Send Forth Your Spirit)

Like a Cloud That Conceals Your Face

Splendor of Creation (Send Forth Your Spirit) was written by Fr. Lucien Deiss, C.S.Sp. (1921-2007). It was first published in 1965 as part of his collection: Biblical Hymns and Psalms, Volume I. His hymns are used throughout the Universal Church. They have been translated into many languages, an example of which is the spanish version, Oh Señor, Envía tu Espíritu (see video). In the Liturgy of the Hours, Send Forth Your Spirit (Splendor of Creation) is used at Pentecost.

The Spirit of God

The Spirit of God Rests on Me

The Spirit of God was written by Lucien Deiss, C.S.Sp. (1921-2007). It was first published in 1970 as part of the collection: Biblical Hymns and Psalms, Volume II. Fr. Deiss was a Priest of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit. Known as Holy Ghost Fathers or Spiritans, from their founding in 1703, they have been dedicated to serving the poor and marginalized, and proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In the Liturgy of the Hours, The Spirit of God is used at Pentecost.

Have Mercy, O Lord

Have Mercy, O Lord by Fr. Lucien Deiss, C.S.Sp. (1921-2007) was first published in 1965 as part of the his collection: Biblical Hymns and Psalmns, Vol. 1. While he is best known for his musical works and his involvement with Vatican II liturgical reforms, this Spiritan Father was also a missionary: giving retreats and serving the poor in several nations of the world. In the Liturgy of the Hours, Have Mercy, O Lord is used during Holy Week.

Keep in Mind

He is Our Saving Lord

Keep in Mind was written by Fr. Lucien Deiss C.S.Sp. (1921-2007). It was first published in 1965 as part of the collection: Biblical Hymns and Psalms, Volume 1. It was during this time period that Fr. Deiss accepted the request by Pope Paul VI to coordinate the revision of the Lectionary Psalter in accordance with the Second Vatican Council. Keep in Mind remains one of his most enduring works. In the Liturgy of the Hours it is used with the Office for the Dead, and during Lent and Easter.

Recreate in Us Your Own Spirit

Grant to Us was written in 1965 by Fr. Lucien Deiss C.S.Sp. (1921 -2007). Fr. Deiss wrote over 400 liturgical songs and hymns often blending memorable tunes with scriptural references such as the Biblical themes of repentance, forgiveness, and renewal shown in Grant to Us, O Lord, a Heart Renewed. In the Liturgy of the Hours it is used during Lent.

Joy to You

Mary, Mother of the Lord!

Joy to You was written by Fr. Lucien Deiss, C.S.Sp. It was first published in 1970 as part of the collection: Biblical Hymns and Psalms, Volume II. It was also featured on a recording by Fr. Deiss called Joy to You, Mother of the Lord: 12 Songs in Honor of Our Lady. Fr. Deiss was very involved in liturgical renewal during Vatican II. His efforts to compose new hymns of devotion to Our Lady corresponded to the issuing of several important theological Papal documents following Vatican II concerning the renewal and reaffirmation of the role of Mary in the Church. In the Liturgy of the Hours, Joy to You is used on the Feast Day of Mary, the Mother of God and on the Feast of the Assumption.

Unto Us a Son is Given

A Child is Born was first published in 1965 as part of Biblical Hmns and Psalms (Volume 1) by Lucien Deiss C.S.Sp. (1921-2007). Born and educated in France, Fr. Deiss, was commissioned by Pope Paul VI to coordinate the Psalter of the Lectionary as part of the reforms of Vatican II. Throughout his life he composed new works for the liturgy. They continue to be sung around the world and have been translated into many languages. In the Liturgy of the Hours, A Child is Born is used during Christmas.

Maranatha

Come, O Christ the Lord!

Maranatha, written by Fr. Lucien Deiss (1921-2007) was first published in 1965 as part of Biblical Hymns and Psalms (Vol. 1). Born in France, Fr. Deiss was an expert scholar on scripture and liturgical music. His hymns are sung throughout the Universal Church. The following video features a Spanish version of Maranatha. In the Liturgy of the Hours it is used during Advent.

All You Nations

Sing out your joy to the Lord.

All You Nations is written by Spiritan Father Lucien Deiss, and was originally published in Biblical Hymns and Psalmns, Volume 1. First published in 1965, it was one of the earliest collections of new Catholic hymns for congregational singing of the Vatican II era. It is used in the Liturgy of the Hours during Ordinary Time for Morning Prayer and with the Office of Readings.

Sion, Sing, first published in 1965 as part of Biblical Hymns and Psalms Vol. 1, it was written by Lucien Deiss, C.S.Sp. A member of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit, Fr. Deiss was actively involved with liturgical reforms to the Lectionary during Vatican II. In the Liturgy of the Hours, Sion Sing is used during Ordinary Time for Morning Prayer.
